It has almost been one year since Joe and I moved to Portland. We started our new home with a pickem-up truck full of things. It is now greatly expanded as you find out when you pack to move. We has moved into our current apartment mainly because it had the only landlord that would allow us to move in without having met us or having us meet the apartment. We lucked into a great neighborhood. Yesterday was the perfect example of that. We woke up and by 1 pm we were on the side of Mount Tabor. It is an old volcano and a pretty big hill. Here we and thousands of others drank beer and watched an Adult Soap Box Derby.
The fast cars zoomed down at about 40 mph. He slow cars were still going fast but has themes. One was a picnic table with a couple people eating as it raced down. Another was s tage complete with a rock band. All in all it was really fun. A mix of families and hipsters attended the event in typical Portland style. Making the people watching totally awesome. People would walk the track til announcers would tell them to clear the way for the race. People would sprint to the side and then the cars would come down.
After that we headed home for some lunch and a nap. It was about 100 out yesterday. So mixed with beer we needed to. We watched a Red Sox game and then a Bears game before we went out for dinner. We walked about a block to a cute wine bar. It was air conditioned and we were happy. We had a cheese plate and sampled some Pinot Noirs and Cabs from Oregon and Washington and Joe had a local Port to close out the evening. While I was sipping my wine I lamented that we are moving from the hood in less than a week. our new apartment (although bigger, nicer and cheaper) is in not a fancy a neighborhood. I am sure that I will love it once we are moved in and get to explore. For now I will lament Montavilla as we move to Creston - Kenilworth.
